There are many different materials used for custom furniture and one of the most important are metal choices. At Old Fashioned Lumber we use a variety of metals including different steels with a selection of patinas and similarly a selection of brasses with patina finished. With many options to choose from, we are able to blend and harmonize metals and brasses alongside the many species of wood, laminates, solid surfaces and other materials.
Brushed Brass
Brass is a favorite for Old Fashioned Lumber's customers. Whether it is for a high end restaurant or a boho Los Angeles apartment the timelessness of brushed brass is an obvious choice. If it’s to compliment a stunning American black walnut live edge table or for subtle hardware, handles or other accents to a console or dresser we have found time and again that brushed brass is the perfect material.
Blackened Steel
Blackening is fast oxidizing patina added to penetrate the steel. It creates a natural black color that shows depth and relates to the inherent character and strenght of the cold rolled steel used in the fabriation of our Frame, Wishbone and other steel legs.
Polished Brass
Brass is typically chosen in either the timeless contemporary brushed brass finish or the elegant strong statement that is polished brass. At Old Fashioned Lumber we spend the many hours using varying degrees of abrasives and sanding papers to bring out the highest possible polished brass finish.
Weathered Steel
Museum Quality Furniture Designed and manufactured in California.

Raw Steel
Plain or raw steel is used when our customers are maybe wanting some with an urban/industrial look. Whether it is cold rolled steel bars or hot rolled steel we are able to fabricate and deliver for any number of applications and uses including legs, supports and accents.Â
Polished Steel
One of the most elegant steel finishes is that of Polished Steel. At Old Fashioned Lumber we spend the many hours using varying degrees of abrasives and sanding papers to bring out the highest possible polished steel finish. It is polished so highly that it is referred to as a mirror finish. The color of highly polished steel almost a platinum color and is a very special material creating an extra layer of elegance to a custom table or credenza.
